The Long Medical Career of Dr. Gail Weingast

Soon after she completed her medical school education at Boston University in 1976 and then went on too complete a series of internships, residencies and fellowships at hospitals in the Denver area, Dr. Gail Weingast then practiced radiology at several other hospitals in Colorado and also in New York, until she settled into her current position in Connecticut. These days, Dr. Weingast is best known as a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging.

By now, Dr. Gail Weingast has become an institution at Backus Hospital; that is a product of her more than two decades there. In that time, she has been able to use her position to transform her radiology department into one of the best anywhere, which has, in turn, transformed the hospital into a premiere medical facility. There is no doubt that her more than four decades of knowledge and experience that has given her the ability to do that. Her career path hasn’t always been a straight line; it even started with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish before she switched over to medicine a few years later. The rest is, of course, a good history.
